Kaihua County is located in the source place of Qiantang River, bordering Anhui and Jiangxi provinces and other seven counties with the saying that says a cock’s crow can be heard by three provinces. It is the western gate of Zhejiang Province. The county, whose population reaches 350,000 covers an area of 2,236 square kilometers, composed of 18 townships，1 provincial-level industrial park and 449 administrative villages.

Kaihua County is of a long history. It was set up in the sixth year of Taiping Heavenly Kingdom Reign of North Song Dynasty (A.D. 981) and the name of the county was originated in the fourth year of Qiande Reign of North Song Dynasty (A.D. 966). Up to now, it has a history of more than 1,000 years.

Kaihua County enjoys convenient traffic. No. 205 National Highway, No.17 Provincial Highway, Hang-Xin-Jing and Huang-Qu-Nan Highways, Jiu-Jing-Qu Railway, which are currently under construction, run through here, making it the place that must be passed through to Quzhou from Zhejiang, Jiangxi, Anhui and Fujian provinces. Therefore, Kaihua has formed its transportation circle of about 2-hour drive to Hangzhou, 4-hour drive to Shanghai and Ningbo and 2-hour drive to its neighboring central cities. In addition, as it only takes one hour to get to some famous tourist attractions, such as: the AAAA scenic spot of One-Thousand Island Lake, the world natural and cultural heritage site of Mt. Huangshan, the famous Daoism mountain of Mt. Sanqing, the great man holy land of Wuyuan Jiangwan, it is called “ the golden tourism collecting and distributing center”.

Kaihua County is endowed with beautiful ecological environment. Forest coverage rate is up to 79.6 percent. The ecological environmental quality ranks 16 in 2,348 counties (cities) of China. Besides, atmospheric environment attains National Grade II Standard or above and surface water quality reaches National Grade I Water Standard all year round. It is one of 17 hilly protection areas of world-wide significance, “an important ecological barrier in Western Zhejiang” defined by State Environmental Protection Administration, a national ecological demonstration area and an ecological county in Zhejiang Province.

Kaihua County is abundant in resources. The total storage volume of forest is 7.5 million cubic meters. There are 155,000 mu bamboo forests, 102,000 mu Longding famous tea gardens and 179,000 mu oil-tea camellia. The annual production of edible fungi is about 200 million bags. The total water reserve is 2.72 billion cubic meters and the amount of water resource per capita is 3.91 times and 3.93 times than that of state and province respectively. The polymetallic minerals, such as: stone coal, limestone, lead, zinc etc. are of rich reserve volume and high quality. There are about 200,000 rural labor forces and 13,000 technicians of various kinds in the whole county. More than that, Kaihua has over 220 scenic spots, including Qiangjiangyuan National Forest Park, Gutianshan Mountain National Natural Reserve, the CPC Fujian, Zhejiang and Jiangxi provinces Commission site，and the CPC Zhejiang and Anhui recorders site. It is also the Mid-Autumn Festival Protection Demonstration Location, of which Zhejiang Province established 14 demonstrations to protect traditional festivals for the first time.

Kaihua County possesses distinct industry character. Kaihua is one of the fixed-point production bases of monocrystalline silicon for Ministry of Information Industry, silicon industry base in Zhejiang Province and the provincial high-tech characteristic industrial base of silicon materials. Monocrystalline silicon and organosilicon industry have been listed in one of the 26 national advanced manufacturing industries that are planned to cultivate by Zhejiang Province. Red East 1, Shenzhou Series Spacecraft and Chang'e Lunar Exploration Satellite all use space used monocrystalline silicon wafers provided by Kaihua silicon enterprises. Moreover, other featured industries, such as electric light source, fine chemicals, machinery and electronics, bamboo and wood products, and green food processing develop fast as well. The products are well sold to Asia, Europe, America and other 60 countries and areas.
